Anyone that has followed my work knows I just love color. I love being able to coordinate around nursery themes and colors for newborn sessions, birthday party colors for cake smashes, you name it. My branding is bright and cheery, with pops of pink and yellow amongst grey chevron, which matches the decor in my photography studio as well. I just love color. My love for color extends beyond photography and into my everyday things. I love wearing bright colors, especially crazy colored tennis shoes (I always joke that they just make me LOOK fast) I have tons of color throughout my home and I just love it. I live my life in color. But…sometimes an image just speaks to me in black and white.
I love a moody black & white, especially an image that really focuses on the connection in the photo. Some of my favorite newborn images in black & white are the detail shots, eyelashes, little feet, tiny hands. I just love the depth that only a b&w conversion can give you. Sometimes I love the classic look a photo gets when it isn’t in color. I also love black & white images for family shots, especially shots where new parents are gazing down lovingly at their brand new baby, the one they spent months, sometimes even years dreaming about. It’s just the sweetest thing, there’s no need for color-the focus is on the connection and I love it.
So, are you ready for some black & white images?
Here’s some of my favorite newborn & maternity session black and white images. I’ve included the color version for some as well, I’d love to hear which version you prefer, color or black and white?
